Study of Poetry

The study of poetry
never ceases to amaze
with its’ rules
its’ rhymes,
the rippling of phrase.
Should it mirror the shadows?
Sketch life’s stark reality?
Tap strict marching time?
Warble harmoniously?
Reveal soul-shrouded dreams
innocent hopes, careless fears?
Paint vivid remembrances of times yesteryear?
What purpose is there
to this linking of words,
capturing minds
driving hearts
feeding fires?
