So Much For Philosophy

Euripedes is rumored to have said:
“The wisest follow their own direction.”
I am not sure he meant
zigging and zagging
to-ing and fro-ing
like crickets on hot asphalt
precariously jumping
from one sudden interest
to wee new delights
skipping and a leaping
through summer’s lingering light.
Nor do I think he meant
stubborn immobility
as aged granite sunk deep
rooted in one place
laying inviolable claim
to this space, this place
gloomily surveying
the world  move on apace.
Surely, there is a middle ground!
