Winsome Smile

Her winsome smile
peeked out behind scattered curls.
A toe tucked in towards her foot as she solemnly lisped,
“That was a beautiful song you sang today.”
My breath caught; no higher praise could be found.
I remember her straining forward
eyes alight, and smile aglow.
Intent and swaying, then softening into grandma’s arms
as the music came to a close.
